Inline math like <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"><semantics><mrow><msup><mi>e</mi><mrow><mi>i</mi><mi>π</mi></mrow></msup><mo>+</mo><mn>1</mn><mo>=</mo><mn>0</mn></mrow><annotation encoding="application/x-tex">e^{i\pi} + 1 = 0</annotation></semantics></math>
sits in the line, and display math gets its own block:

<math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="block"><semantics><mrow><msubsup><mo>∫</mo><mrow><mo>−</mo><mi mathvariant="normal">∞</mi></mrow><mi mathvariant="normal">∞</mi></msubsup><msup><mi>e</mi><mrow><mo>−</mo><msup><mi>x</mi><mn>2</mn></msup></mrow></msup><mtext> </mtext><mi>d</mi><mi>x</mi><mo>=</mo><msqrt><mi>π</mi></msqrt></mrow><annotation encoding="application/x-tex">
\int_{-\infty}^{\infty} e^{-x^2}\,dx = \sqrt{\pi}
</annotation></semantics></math>
Everything is rendered to HTML when the site builds, so there is no JavaScript
involved and nothing flashes on load. Here is a matrix, because why not:

<math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="block"><semantics><mrow><mi>A</mi><mo>=</mo><mrow><mo fence="true">[</mo><mtable rowspacing="0.16em" columnalign="center center" columnspacing="1em"><mtr><mtd><mstyle scriptlevel="0" displaystyle="false"><mn>1</mn></mstyle></mtd><mtd><mstyle scriptlevel="0" displaystyle="false"><mn>2</mn></mstyle></mtd></mtr><mtr><mtd><mstyle scriptlevel="0" displaystyle="false"><mn>3</mn></mstyle></mtd><mtd><mstyle scriptlevel="0" displaystyle="false"><mn>4</mn></mstyle></mtd></mtr></mtable><mo fence="true">]</mo></mrow><mo separator="true">,</mo><mspace width="2em"/><mi>det</mi><mo>⁡</mo><mi>A</mi><mo>=</mo><mo>−</mo><mn>2</mn></mrow><annotation encoding="application/x-tex">
A = \begin{bmatrix} 1 & 2 \\ 3 & 4 \end{bmatrix},
\qquad
\det A = -2
</annotation></semantics></math>
Code

24 GB became two cores and 12 GB. Still the most generous free tier anyone offers,
and enough to run a genuine pile of things.

This is the first post. More to come.

About

I’m Gabe Yocum, an applied and computational mathematics student at BYU.
I spend most of my time building automation systems: workflows, data
pipelines and agents that take tedious work off people’s plates.

On the side I ship a steady stream of projects, like a music review network
and an iOS app making its way to the web. They run on a single free ARM
server, which I wrote about.

I like problems where the math and the engineering meet. If you have one of
those, or just want to talk shop, my inbox is open.
